Owen’s Clinic

By Jamie Intervalo, AIA

Owen's Clinic first opened its doors in Hillcrest in 1982 by Dr. Chris Matthews as a gay men’s health center operated by volunteers. During a time when AIDS was first beginning to rear its head, this care center became one of the largest, more comprehensive primary car centers in San Diego for individuals with HIV.[1] Today the clinic is now owned and operated by UC San Diego and treats more people with HIV and AIDS than any other local facility and serves as an international role model for state-of-the-art quality HIV care.
