Why I’m involved in AIA San Diego…and AIA: I became an AIA member in 1993, but I didn’t really get involved until I moved to San Diego ten years later. As an architect new to San Diego, I wanted to get to know the local design and construction environment, and meet people involved in the local A&E industry. AIA San Diego helped me do just that, so much so that I began to get involved in the planning and managing of fellowship events for the chapter. This experience lead me to other opportunities, such as learning how non-profit organizations are managed and how the AIA gets involved with advocacy issues at our local, state, and national levels of government. I believe in the AIA because it provides architects a platform upon which we can build collaborative relationships, contribute to our communities, and express the very best about what our profession has to offer to our society.
