Membership Info

AIA Membership involves a three-tiered membership system, with dues allocated and services provided at the local, state, and national levels. AIA Architect Membership
Eligibility: Individuals currently licensed to practice architecture in a US state or territory. (Proof of licensure required for submittal with application.)

New Member dues rates. (Covers dues through December 2008.):

AIA Associate Membership
Eligibility: Individuals not licensed to practice architecture, but meeting one (or more) of the following conditions:
* Hold a professional degree in architecture;
* Participate in career responsibilities recognized by licensing authorities as constituting credit toward licensure (interns);
* Work under the supervision of an architect in a professional or technical capacity;
* Serve as faculty member in a university program in architecture;
* A copy of your degree is required with membership application.  An official or unofficial transcript can be provided in lieu of a copy of your degree as long as the transcript notes the date of graduation as well as the title of the degree (i.e. architecture).

Associate Member Dues Rates (Covers dues through December 2008.):

AIA Associate Membership for Recent Graduates
Eligibility: Individuals who graduate from an accredited school of architecture in 2007, and who meet the above requirements for Associate Membership, are eligible for a free membership rate through December 2008. A copy of your degree is required with membership application.  An official or unofficial transcript can be provided in lieu of a copy of your degree as long as the transcript notes the date of graduation as well as the title of the degree (i.e. architecture).

AIA International Associate Membership
Eligibility: Individuals licensed to practice architecture in another country but not in the US.

AIA Emeritus Membership

Eligibility: Individuals who have sustained AIA Membership for 15 successive years and have reached age 70 years or who have reached 60 years of age and are fully retired may request Emeritus status. Emeritus Members have full AIA membership privileges and receive AIA benefits at a significant discount.

AIA San Diego Corporate Allied Membership
Eligibility: Design and construction industry professionals including contractors, designers, artists, engineers, and other members of the design and building professional community, as well as members of the public interested in the field of architecture.

AIA San Diego Student Allied Membership
Eligibility: Students currently enrolled in accredited schools of architecture.

AIA San Diego Component Allied Membership
Eligibility: Architects and Associates who are members of other AIA chapters and yet wish to receive the local benefits of being an AIA San Diego member may join as a Component Allied Member. Local dues rates apply (Architect dues are $196 and Associate dues are $109).

Moved? Changed firms? New fax number?
If your address or other point of contact information has changed, simply download the form, complete it with your new info, and fax it back to us. We'll change your data throughout the AIA database so that you receive AIA national, AIA California Council, and local AIA San Diego info at the right place.

15 for 12?  Sound weird!  Well, it's a great deal so listen up!  Each October 1st, AIA runs a "pay for 12 months and get 15 months of membership" promotion.  To find out more details, contact the Membership Coordinator at AIA San Diego.
