Concrete Moisture and Failed Flooring
The root causes of most flooring failures involves moisture, as well as an EPA regulation that changed the way flooring adhesives are manufactured. Now more than ever, moisture vapor transmitting or emitting from concrete can delay installation or cause flooring failures, and promote the growth of mold and bacteria which causes serious erosion of a structure’s Interior Environmental Quality (IEQ). This program reviews the magnitude of the problem, discusses the various causes, offers permanent solutions, and touches on current American Concrete Institute (ACI) recommendations. It analyzes how to address ground moisture problems, as well as the common problem often referred to as concrete drying; specifically, the seminar takes a close look at how to eliminate the free water in concrete that needs to be removed from the slab prior to flooring installation, thus helping maintain a predictable construction schedule.
