AIASD Highlights:
AIASD hosts a City Council Candidate Forum
AIA San Diego is pleased to announce that the City Council candidates involved in a run-off election this fall have all accepted our invitation to engage in a public discourse with the AIA San Diego membership.
If there’s an upside to the five months of lengthy campaigning between the June primary and November general elections, it is that we have plenty of time to identify which of the remaining candidates have the vision to ensure San Diego lives up to its self proclaimed status as “America’s Finest City.”
DATE: Tuesday, August 10, 2010
TIME: 6-8pm
WHO: District 6 candidates: Howard Wayne and Lorie Zapf
District 8 candidates: David Alvarez and Felipe Hueso
Moderated by Keith York, of Modern San Diego
WHAT: Candidates will address key issues pertaining to the built environment
LOCATION: The Joan and Irwin Jacobs Theater at San Diego’s Museum of Photographic Arts, 1649 El Prado, San Diego, CA 92101 in Balboa Park
Parking recommendations: CLICK HERE to download park map. We recommend parking in the lot in the back of Prado Restaurant (which is the south lot under #14 on the map - entrance on Park Blvd.)

If you’re on the fence about whether or not this event is worth your time, here are 5 compelling reasons to RSVP today:
- Find out where your future city council representatives stand on issues that are important to you. We will be discussing planning and sustainability issues that may not be addressed in other campaign forums or advertising.
- Demonstrate to politicians that architects are organized and involved and that we care about the future of our city.
- Your participation will help showcase (for the benefit of our elected officials) the expertise available from AIA San Diego members when preparing to make decisions on important policy matters.
- Make your voice heard! In addition to a pre-selected set of questions for our candidates, we are encouraging our attendees to come prepared with relevant, poignant questions and to participate in the discourse.
- Because it’s been way too long since you last visited Balboa Park.
*AIA Members: a Self-Report "cheat-sheet" will be available at the event for easy self-reporting on your member transcript after the event.
