If you are interested in nominating someone to be considered for the 2010 AIA San Diego Board of Directors, please send an email to info@aiasandiego.com by Friday, June 12th at 12:00PM. Please indicate what role you are nominating this person for (see available positions below) and provide a brief statement as to why that person is well suited.
The following positions are open:
- Vice-President
- Secretary
- Treasurer
- Advocacy Commissioner
- Fellowship Commissioner
- Practice Commissioner
- Public Awareness Commissioner
- Young Architects Commissioner*
Currently, positions noted with an (*) are filled with Commissioners in their “sophomore” year, meaning that (as of December 31st, 2009) they will have served in the position for two years. While it is not required, the chapter’s strategy has been to have commissioners serve for two years on the board. This allows the commissioners to spend their first year getting up to speed on what being a board member entails and also building a rapport with their board peers. Then, in their second year, they’re better equipped to serve the organization from a seasoned, collaborative perspective. They also are encouraged to mentor an individual who might serve as their successor (via the nominating and election process). With this strategy in place for several years now, the Nominating Committee has placed an emphasis on the identification of potential “freshman” commissioners. If this approach continues for 2010, available freshman commissioner positions on the board would include the Young Architects Commissioner position. Should you have any questions regarding the nominating and election process, the roles of the various commissioners, or any other board, leadership or governance issues, please do not hesitate to contact your AIA San Diego staff or Kevin Pollem, AIA, Chairperson of the Nominating Committee. Call 619-232-0109 or email info@aiasandiego.org.
