Architects to grill San Diego City Council candidates

Districts 6 and 8 in the spotlight Aug. 10

Local architects get to grill the finalists next week in two of the San Diego City Council four districts that will appear on the Nov. 2 ballot.

The local chapter of the American Institute of Architects will hold the candidates forum at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Museum of Photographic Arts in the Casa de Balboa, 1649 El Prado, in Balboa Park.

Participating will be Howard Wayne and Lorie Zapf in District 6, the Clairemont-area district now represented by termed-out Donna Frye, and David Alvarez and Felipe Hueso in District 8, the district that includes both areas east of downtown and along the Mexican border. Hueso is the brother of incumbent Ben Hueso, who is termed out.

Serving as moderator will be Keith York, corporate relations officer for UCSD and architectural documentarian, who will ask the candidates four questions and then open up the dialog to the public.

There is no charge and the event is open to all, not just architects.
