AIA San Diego – 75 Years of Service to the Region

Founded in 1928, AIA San Diego Chapter is a local component of the 146-year-old American Institute of Architects, headquartered in Washington, D.C.

The mission of AIA San Diego is to encourage, promote, advance and coordinate efforts to uphold the highest standards of the Architecture Profession in the community.

Fellowship: To foster and support participation in the practice of architecture, providing a variety of means for fellowship and the involvement of all members. 

Communication: To ensure member-access to current and accurate information about and relating to architecture and to work for increased understanding between the professional, the building industry, public officials, media and other organizations. 

Education: To promote professional and practice development with continuing education programs of substance and quality for members.  To be involved with educational institutions on all levels to promote public awareness of design, and to build bridges between practitioners and architecture schools to mutual benefit.  

Public Policy: To demonstrate the value of the profession by working for and advocating freshness and imagination in the quality of the built environment – Livable Communities. To act as a lead organization in the discussion and resolution of issues affecting the welfare and progress of the community. 

Advocacy: To serve as a resource/counsel for municipal and county governments in planning issues, especially in the use of assets that should be developed and in the resolution of troublesome problems. To support the interest of the profession in public issues, legislation and activities, and by public example...  

  • to improve the community by working continuously and consistently for a better built environment,
  • by providing ongoing leadership through training opportunities and mentor programs,
  • and holding the profession to the highest standard of ethical conduct and architectural practice.
